...Recently Rogier made a kiln repair trip to Pana, Illinois. Traveling West on Interstate 70, he fleetingly noticed something along the highway, but was past it before he could take a good look at it. On the way back and traveling East though, Rogier was prepared, had his camera ready and took the following pictures. There coming around the bend in the road Rogier saw this "witness" along the Interstate 70. No matter what one might thing about the symbolism or the reasoning behind creating this statement, one has to admit that it is totally awesome! I was blown away with the size of the structure. Since I had some time and since I was very much impressed and intrigued, I exited the Interstate and drove a little bit out of my way to see the cross up close. It is surrounded by searchlights that light up the cross at night. Each search light base has one of the Ten Commandments inscribed on it. A very, very impressive witness to all who come by and thus are reminded of God's omnipresence, goodness and love. Located at the crossing of Interstates 70 (East-West) and Interstate 57 (North-South) in the State of Illinois, 35.000 cars pass the cross daily and it is seen by approximately 50.000 travelers each day! More information about this giant cross, that is 198 feet tall, can be found on the web site of the Foundation that built it : crossusa.org...
