The "Riverview Nursery" came about as a result of Ellen's passion for
growing and cultivating "things" as well as the need to do something productive with all those additional lots we had purchased in downtown Riverview. It took a few years, but now Ellen grows rows upon rows of assorted groundcover, bushes of all kinds as well as perennials. While most all of the nursery crop is purchased by local nursery shops, those brave enough to seek out the nursery ( in the "boonies" such as we are) are welcome to visit and peruse the grounds. All the plants in the nursery are started from seeds and are grown organically, without the use of chemicals or commercial fertilizers. A licensed grower, Ellen prides herself (and rightfully so, said the proud husband!) on getting a "clean bill of health" and a good report card from the State Nursery Inspector for the last nine years.....![]()
The flood may have put things behind a little, but Ellen still grows the most beautiful Korean Boxwoods! Here's Ellen putting the finishing touches on her "babies". They will be on the garden store shelves soon! In between it all we found this giant elephant ear mushroom in the orchard. A little early, but "Hey!" it will taste good! Ah for the small blessings in life....
...not withstanding the flood and having its feet in frozen water earlier this year, the magnolia is busting out all over!
One of the reasons Ellen's growing "stuff" looks so good and is so healthy is because she plants the nursery stock in sterilized soil that she mixes herself from various ingredients.....including shredded leaves, shredded manure, sand and various other "secret" ingredients. The ingredients are carefully measured and mixed in these containers, fire underneath and voila! Heat plus a little bit of water makes steam, which makes for sterilized soil! Smart woman that Ellen! Left in the back ground the new green house, right in the back ground the pottery studio and belfry as well as the new tractor shed.

What was started last October ,finally materialized! Ellen's new green house is almost finished! That "polygal" roofing system is something else! Wonderful stuff!
